Former boxing star Oscar De La Hoya “thinks seriously” of getting into the race to become president of the United States in 2020.
“I am very serious,” he said in an interview with TMZ. “I believe that if a Kanye West thinks he run, why not me?”
The former athlete turned promoter of combat sports has even formed a committee whose mandate is to measure the interest of the population for his candidacy.
“As soon as I became a professional boxer, I had millions of people who asked me why I did not show up, why I was not doing so to have a bigger voice. And there is no voice more powerful than that of the president.”
If the data collected by his committee is encouraging, De La Hoya says he will confirm his candidacy to then start his campaign.
The businessman is currently promoting the rematch between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin on September 15 in Las Vegas. In the sub-card of the gala, Quebecker David Lemieux will face Irishman Gary O’Sullivan.
